Hawaii may become space-gazing capital of world
A giant telescope, the biggest in the world, capable of a range of advanced processes such as viewing a planet outside the solar system with more accuracy than any other telescope currently in existence, may be built in Hawaii within the next decade or so.
The Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) is the name by which a major development in the mountains of Hawaii is known. The name is a reference to the diameter of the actual telescope which will have a 98 foot, or 20 meter diameter segmented mirror or Ritchey-Chrétien telescope, which will enable it to provide images three times sharper and ten times wider in scope than any other facility currently in existence in the world.
